sanctuary history: The Cameroon Wildlife Aid Fund (CWAF) was formed in 1997 to support the work of two Cameroon-based organizations: the Mvog-Betsi Zoo in Yaounde and the Mefou National Park, approximately 40 kilometers away. At the zoo, which is in the process of reorganizing along the lines of a sanctuary and a confiscation center, dozens of species can be found. At Mefou, electrified forest enclosures house chimpanzees, baboons and gorillas in large social groups.
